Cannabidiol is one of the most abundant cannabinoids in fiber and seed hemp varieties. In the living plant it accumulates largely as cannabidiolic acid, which converts to cannabidiol as the material is dried and heated.
Its molecular formula is C21H30O2. It is structurally related to tetrahydrocannabinol but differs in that its molecule does not close into the same ring, a distinction analytical methods such as HPLC use to tell the two compounds apart.
